Meet Uriah Dick, Accounts Administrator

Uriah Dick, Accounts Administrator at our Bournemouth office, tells us about his role at LV=. Uriah joined LV= in 2021 as a Customer Service Representative while studying at university. After completing his studies, he moved into the role of accounts administrator.

What does your day-to-day role look like?
My role is very involved and there’s a lot of variety; from cash management, to financial controlling, planning and reporting. On an average day I work mostly with teams around the business, ensuring that the necessary accounts are funded with enough money to ensure payments can be made internally and externally. I also reconcile accounts, track funds coming in and out of the business, update ledgers and match incoming funds to the correct accounts.

What advice would you give someone looking to do a job like yours?
A willingness to learn is paramount. Although some of the knowledge required can be learned through further education and courses, the vast majority can only be learned on the job. Networking is very important also – taking the initiative to form relationships with stakeholders from different departments within the business has sharply increased the rate at which I’ve been able to grow in my career, giving me opportunities to work on some very interesting projects alongside my primary role.

But the best advice I could give someone is to not give up. It’s okay to apply for a role you don’t feel qualified for. Going through the application process, even if you’re unsuccessful can be a great way to identify exactly what needs improving and also build your confidence.

‘You’re not having a bad life, you’re just having a bad day’, a few unsuccessful interviews in a row doesn’t mean every interview you have will be unsuccessful, and don’t forget that you only need one successful application to land your target role.

What have you enjoyed most in your role so far?
I like that it’s something I’ve never done before, and it challenges me in novel ways.

What other role within LV= could you see yourself doing?
I have had a chance to work with some of the actuaries and I can see myself doing that.

For a work meeting, what’s your drink of choice?
Water

Outside work, what do you enjoy doing?
I try to read when I can, non-fiction mostly. I also run, go the gym, work on some fun DIY projects and spend time with friends and family.
