Working within our Building Claims Department we are looking for someone who is looking to build a career with ourselves. Perhaps you are already working within Claims/Insurance or maybe you have experience of working in the building trade and are looking for a desk job, whatever your background you will be keen to take on the responsibility for assisting our customers with their Building claims here in Bournemouth.

Training will be given.

Role Profile

This is a role in the Specialist Building Claims Team, working independently to manage building claims and any associated contents claims. By using building construction, repair and pricing expertise you will negotiate settlement with the customer and/or their appointed building contractor

Key Responsibilities

Engage with customers across the full spectrum of policy events to fully understand; what has happened, what matters to them, the nature of their claim the outcome they are seeking

Use comprehensive knowledge of building construction and application of specialist repair techniques to analyse evidence, including photos and video footage, to confirm causation. This will entail full expert assessment of the nature of damage, customer impact and the appointing of specialist contractors when you judge that this additional expertise is required

Identify and examine all necessary evidence to determine whether liability attaches under the policy and identify any elements which are not covered by the policy. This will entail interpreting and solving complex building problems, analysing options and making recommendations

Apply technical competence to fully scope all necessary reinstatement on valid claims and the feasibility of repairs, using external systems such as appropriate. This will include the preparation of full elemental priced repair schedules. The outcomes required are to;

Proactively progress all other claims to the furthest possible point

Control claim spend by ensuring that damage not caused by the operation of an insured peril is excluded and precisely quantifying the cost of repairing insured damage. Use of negotiation with customer’s own tradesman to obtain most suitable cash settlement option for all parties

Explain reinstatement options to customers and identify customer preference before either cash settling, instructing the LV managed contractor network to effect repairs or negotiating the scope and cost of repairs with the customer’s own building contractor

Take a high volume of technical queries from Home Claims Handlers and Technical claims. You will need full knowledge of the processes followed in these other functions, and a broad claims perspective, to either act as a lead in providing technical advice or by taking ownership of the claim

Provide an expert referral point for our Building Contractor Network

Act as a referral point for less experienced staff across function and sites, sharing and documenting best practices including, mentoring, coaching and surgeries on all property repair and building related claims

Pro-actively challenge and manage supplier performance to achieve satisfactory service and settlements for our customers

About you

Have an understanding of Insurance, claims or building knowledge is desirable but not essential as full training will be given.

Have excellent communication and negotiation skills and a high level of organization

Able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including competent letter writing with the ability to produce a letter that is clear, precise and grammatically correct.
