Role Description

LV=GI are transforming our data landscape through the delivery of the Data Strategy. Underpinning this is the Azure Data Platform, which the BI team are responsible for designing, building and maintaining, and Data Engineers are key to ensuring its success.

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our family of talented people in the BI Development & support team as a BI Data Engineer.

As a BI Data Engineer, you will work in a multi-functional environment and be responsible for the ongoing delivery of the data platform by utilising existing technical design patterns and integrating new data (internal and external).

Each new delivery holds its own challenges, and so the job holder will demonstrate a range of technical and analytical skills, but the ability to problem-solve is fundamental to ensure successful delivery towards our strategic goals.

Your focus:

  • Work with business stakeholders and source system SMEs to create the data transformation logic required to populate the data models within the Data Platform
  • Utilise existing technologies - in particular Databricks and Azure Data Factory - and design patterns to safeguard the architectural standards of our Data Platform.
  • Ensure SLAs are adhered to by producing efficient, stable and accurate data processing routines.
  • Build excellent relationships with stakeholders, communicate progress, and set expectations at each step of the delivery process.
  • Lead, plan and execute complex unit and integration tests including documented evidence of test plans and results.
  • Ensure all Data Governance artefacts are maintained as part of the delivery process.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on technology trends within the analytics industry.

About you

To be successful for the role you will have a proven aptitude in mainstream software development working alongside internal and external resources and knowledge of Data modelling and Data Warehousing techniques.

You have previously worked in a Financial Services environment ideally with insurance knowledge desirable but full training will be provided.

You will have knowledge of Microsoft Azure data tooling (Data Factory, Data Lake), Databricks and associated tools and knowledge of Master data Management techniques and data governance

You will have SQL skills and experience with at least one relational database platform 

You will have experience of alternative development methodologies such as waterfall, V and agile.

You will have excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex or technical information in a simple way and when required the ability to Influence and negotiation

You will be able manage relationships with stakeholders driving process improvements.


Degree educated in a related discipline (or equivalent).

Azure Certification would be ideal.

The role will be working from our offices at Bournemouth. Our office with flex model means that you will have the opportunity to work from home as well as the office. As a hybrid worker you will be in the office between 2 and 16 days per month depending on individual and business need. This will be discussed at interview stage
