A new role has arisen for an Underwriting Regulatory Risk and Governance Manager to lead and manage our team of Underwriters.
This is a hybrid role working from either our Croydon/Bournemouth offices.
ROLE PURPOSE:
Embed a best in class regulatory and governance framework across underwriting, coordinating activity across AZH to ensure alignment.
Review regulatory horizon scan to identify and flag threats and opportunities to senior management.
Ensure practical and pragmatic responses to required changes as a result of these developments, and ensure these are embedded across underwritings day to day activity.
Coordinate team activity, create plans of activity and systematic reviews to ensure that the framework provides value and functions properly.
Take ownership of the underwriting risk and control framework and to oversee the end to end governance framework within underwriting, to minimise exposure to regulatory risk.
Take responsibility for embedding best practice risk management into the teams day to day activity, acting as a subject matter expert for regulatory issues, providing a steer to members of the underwriting team and other parts of the business.
Be the underwriting point of contact for enquiries and requests from the regulators and to manage the relationship with other key business stakeholders to ensure positive outcomes.
Coordinate underwriting activities in response to regulator reviews and requests for information, including managing input from multiple functional areas and working with them to resolve issues.
Proactively liaise with industry bodies to ensure alignment of regulatory responses.
Regularly engage senior stakeholders, including GI Exec, to keep them abreast of progress with regulatory activities and to manage their expectations
Oversee the preparation of regulatory reports or other materials for senior management forums, including the GI Exec and Customer Conduct Committee.
Define GI policies and change implementation plans relating to regulatory issues to ensure business compliance.
Oversee monitoring of market and regulatory developments to identify threats and opportunities for the business, providing insight and recommendations.
Maintain close engagement with senior colleagues from Risk, Compliance, Public Affairs, Pricing, Operations and Broker to ensure a joined up AZH approach to regulatory issues.
Lead project work streams and collaborate closely with senior colleagues of all levels across functions to ensure timely delivery of critical regulatory initiatives.
Manage and motivate a team of underwriters, coaching them (and other colleagues) to develop their regulatory knowledge and their leadership behaviours.
Lead underwriting on any internal or external audits – from start to conclusion of actions
Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications
Regulatory, Governance or risk management experience
Ability to manage Exec level and external stakeholders
Drive to deliver with the ability to do so through others
In-depth understanding of the GI market and regulatory regime
Strong influencing skills and diplomacy
Excellent relationship management skills
Uses initiative and able to manage multiple complex priorities with tight deadlines
Excellent communication skills, including reports, presentations, and letter writing
Proactively identifies opportunities or risks and generates innovative ideas for improvement
Collaborative approach and can do attitude
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
A calm, credible and reliable presence
Ability to balance customer and business needs
Experience of Direct sales channels
People management and coaching
Experience of managing audit activities
Relevant professional qualification preferred but not essential, eg ACII
