Dedicated to making sure LV= General Insurance (LV= GI) is a great place to work for everyone, Hannah tells us why diversity and inclusion are more than just buzzwords here.

Having previously worked in the recruitment team, I recently began my new role as Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Lead. D&I has always been a huge passion of mine and an area that is really close to my heart. I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to play a part in forming the strategy for LV= GI and be in a position where I can hopefully make a real difference to our employees. Our overarching aim is to ensure that everyone feels able to bring their true self to work, so they feel confident, are able to make effective relationships and fulfil their potential here.

My role is to programme manage the vast amount of activity we have planned in this space, both currently and with the future in mind. What I love most is the variety of work my role brings with it. One day I might be working with our employee relations team reviewing our HR policies to ensure they’re inclusive for all. The next day I could be reviewing the comments from the Engage survey to understand how our people are thinking and feeling about all things D&I (and of course, putting actions in place to address the thoughts). Or, I could be involved in organising one of the awareness events on our D&I calendar, where throughout the year we focus on topics such as Pride month, neurodiversity, Ramadan, Black History Month and National Inclusion Week to name a few.

We have recently recruited 50 D&I Champions from across the business, to give everyone a platform to be involved and able to play a vital part in shifting our culture to one that is truly inclusive. And we’re always happy to have more D&I Champions join us.
We know that having a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture can drive business performance and productivity, but it’s so much more than that for us. Our D&I agenda is underpinned by our ‘Everyone Counts’ value and we’re on a mission to become the best inclusive employer around – because we know we can achieve more together. What’s more, our aim is to ensure that everyone feels valued for their individual contribution and comfortable to bring their true self to work.

It's great to have both the backing of a large corporate and a small company family feel. The people I work with make it what it is. It’s so nice that whoever you ask for help, they’re always willing to give you their time. And, whichever office you’re in, you’re made to feel welcome and part of the team. There are also incredible development and learning opportunities available here – LV= GI has really helped me grow my confidence and has allowed me to push myself by stepping out of my comfort zone.
My favourite memory of working at LV= GI
Running the Pretty Muddy Race for Life with colleagues and raising £3,000 for Cancer Research. We raised £1,500 ourselves and the business matched our total! It was so much fun to do something together outside of work for a great charity.
