I play a key role in ensuring the delivery of the annual business plan for LV's protection propositions. This includes product development, distribution strategy, service delivery and related 'go to market' activity. I also need to understand competitors’ products. I also answer technical product questions from internal and external parties.
Through my seven years at LV=, I’ve learned the power of saying yes and putting yourself forward for every opportunity given to you - you might find where you’re meant to be when you least expect it.
I’ve been with LV= since 2012, and have had the chance to work in various areas across the business. I’ve also been lucky enough to get involved in some very important projects.
My current role of Assistant Product Manager in Protection lets me see what LV= means to our customers, and to have an impact on making our products ones they’ll love.
Seven years ago, I was at Uni and started working for LV= on a temp basis over the holidays.
At the end of my degree, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, or where I wanted to go next. I saw LV= were hiring for a permanent position in the Sales Support team, and went for it as it was a business I already knew.
After two and a half years, an opportunity came up to be PA to the Head of Sales. It was a move that made sense and allowed me to stay within Sales while pushing myself further. In time, this role grew alongside the business and I spent the next four years as PA & Business Support Officer to the Retirement Director.
For me, I’ve always been as open and honest as I could when it came to my development. I kept talking to my managers, kept asking for more work when I could do it, and didn’t shy away from asking for help when I needed that, too. I actively asked for constructive feedback from stakeholders and sought out advice from senior leaders. I spoke to people whose roles I didn’t know much about. I wanted to understand the business around me and how the different areas worked.
In doing this, I knew I wanted to explore other avenues and try something completely new. In January, I did exactly that and moved into the Protection Product team. If you’d asked me seven years ago if I’d be in this role, or even still be at LV=, I don’t think I’d have believed you! But I love my role, and every day brings new and interesting challenges.
