I joined LV= six and a half years ago. At the time, I was living with a housemate who worked here and recommended me. I started out on the First Notification of Loss team and now I’m a Third Party Claims Consultant. My role involves speaking to innocent third parties and offering our services. At LV=, there are always plenty of opportunities to get involved in things outside of your day-to-day role too. For instance, I’ve been up to Huddersfield to train new starters in the office, I’ve trialled being a Team Leader and I’m also our office charity rep. It’s a fun job as it means I get to hone my inner Paul Hollywood/Mary Berry for our annual bake off!
There are people from all walks of life working in the office and everyone is treated as an equal. I’m openly gay and I feel like I can truly be myself at LV=. I came out when I was 19 and things were quite different back then. I’m nearly 40 now and it’s nice to be able to work somewhere that is so open and inclusive, where there’s no judgement. If anything, LV= encourages diversity and there are a number of groups and communities to make sure that everyone feels included and valued.
I’d worked in financial services prior to LV= and found that sometimes you can feel a bit like you’re just a number. It’s very different here and you really are treated like family. LV= were really supportive when I was dealing with some family and health matters. I had to undergo surgery and take time off, so having amazing managers who are always happy to lend an ear has been brilliant. It’s great to work in a place where I can genuinely look forward to coming into work every day.
