From A-Levels to HR Administrator – my LV= journey so far
Posted by Rachael - HR Administrator
After finishing her A-Levels in the summer of 2012, Rachael joined LV= as a Customer Service Representative. Since then, she’s progressed to join the HR team as HR Administrator. It’s fair to say that Rachael’s come a long way in the past two years. We caught up with her to hear all about her LV= experience so far and her plans for the future…
Hi, Rachael! You’ve had a busy few years since joining LV=. Please tell us all about it.
I joined LV= as a Customer Service Representative in September 2012, just a few months after finishing my A-Levels. Here, my day-to-day role involved talking to LV= customers and helping them with their car insurance products. I also became a ‘buddy’ which involved helping train our new starters in the business. I then progressed into the Policy Validation team, before joining the HR team as HR Administrator in September 2016.
What attracted you to LV=?
I knew loads of people who were either working at LV= or who had worked there previously, and they all encouraged me to apply – so I knew that LV= were a great company to work for.
You joined LV= after finishing you’re A-Levels – what made you decide to go straight into work?
I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do career-wise, but I was keen to start earning my own money. Working for a well-known company who treat their employees well seemed like a perfect option for me while I figured out which direction I wanted to take my career in.
What type of work have you been involved in? What’s been your favourite project?
I really enjoyed being a buddy while working as a Customer Service Representative. This was a very rewarding time as I loved training our new starters and seeing them develop.
What is your support network like at LV=?
I have been very lucky, I have met so many lovely people in my time working at LV=, some of which are now my closest friends. Everyone is willing to help and encourage you whenever you are having a bad day.
What are your career goals and how is LV= helping you work towards achieving them?
I want to continue developing within HR. I have regular updates and one-to-ones with my manager where we discuss where I would like to go and how to achieve my goals.
Has your time so far at LV= matched your original expectations?
I didn’t know what to expect when I first started, I was definitely nervous as I had never had a full time job before. However from the moment I started everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I was put into a training group of around nine or ten other new starters so we were all in the same boat together. This is also true for when I started my new roles within Policy Validation and HR – everyone was more than willing to help whenever I had a query.
What would you say to someone considering applying to LV= who has just finished their A-Levels?
Go for it! LV= is a great company to work for and I have enjoyed progressing through the company.
