From graduate to game-changer: Sam’s journey in Sales at LV=
When Sam joined LV= five years ago, he was a fresh-faced graduate not long out of university. Now, half a decade down the line, he’s not only honed his craft and progressed through our ranks, but is having the opportunity to help others get to where he is. Discover his story now.
Support from day one
“There are people here who really know their stuff, and want to share it.” When Sam applied to join LV=, he was still fresh to the world of work, taking the time to apply for graduate jobs. Five years down the line, his story of joining LV= and progressing through our ranks demonstrates the power of knowledge sharing, mentoring and support that we champion here.
After a nudge in the right direction from his dad, Sam sent an application through and was pleasantly surprised to be asked in for an interview half an hour after hitting send. Sam joined us in the Quote team, and was quickly taken under the wing of senior team members Jane and Christine, who taught him everything he needed to know – and quickly. Soon enough, Sam became, in his words, “an absolute pro at quotes” – and it was all down to the support of his team.
New challenges and new opportunities
In good time, he was gunning for his next challenge. When a job opened up in Sales Support, Sam put himself forward for an interview, and found himself another step up the ladder. In this role, it was Pete and Dawn who taught him the ropes.
“When I first started, there was a lady called Dawn who was leaving, so I was filling her place," explains Sam. "She was so knowledgeable and patient; when I first started I thought ‘how am I going to do this’ but she taught me so much. And Pete, part of the team, really took the time to sit me down and show me how everything works, which gave me the confidence to work in a sales role.”
Now, Sam is a Retirement Consultant, and is in a position to help other people get to where he is. “We are currently running a ‘sales academy’, giving people a chance to get involved and try sales, and learn the skills of the role. They get training, go to meetings, learn how to structure calls and manage relationships – I think it’s fantastic. We have quite a few people that have learnt from the bottom up, who are now interested in sales opportunities.”
So what’s the best thing about working in Sales at LV=?
It’s a cliché, but Sam’s favourite part of the job is the people he works with. “For people that want to join, I would tell them the best thing is the great, friendly working environment. I know lots of people say that, it really is though. I was made to feel like a part of the family from the day I joined. You work hard, have a good laugh, and make friends for life.”
“The opportunities are there for everyone that wants to progress,” says Sam. After talking with him, it’s clear that this is the case.
