At LV= there are plenty of opportunities to make an impact, and progress your career. Just ask Ashley – since joining LV= in a telephone sales role five years ago, he has managed to kick his career into the next gear, and make an incredible impact on the way we do business.
Helping transform the way we work
Ashley Burge, a Field-based Retirement Consultant at LV=, hasn’t just grown personally in his five years here – he’s also helped initiate some big changes at our business. “I had been working at Legal and General and felt I had hit a bit of a ceiling, and that it was time to move on. Two of my previous colleagues had already started working at LV= and as the company was progressing quite rapidly, it seemed like the right next step for me.”
When Ashley joined LV= the telephone team was very new – a stark comparison to Legal and General, who had a very large telephone operation. “We brought our skills over to LV= and setup a telephone team, running shows and seminars across the country until we drummed up enough support. Now the telephone team at LV= is tenfold compared to when we started, with 80% of our work happening over the phone. Knowing my colleagues and I played a big role in that makes me incredibly proud.”
Progression, opportunity and responsibility
Since beginning his career as a telephone consultant, Ashley progressed to the role of Desk-based Retirement Consultant, before landing his current role as Field-based Retirement Consultant. Ashley is now working towards his next jump. “There are four levels to consultants. I’m at Retirement Consultant Level Three, working towards the fourth level. As you progress, so do your responsibilities. There’s more teamwork, helping to run sessions or conferences and helping to train less experienced staff, ensuring more junior members of the team get the support and training they need to develop in their role.”
Any advice for people interested in joining the LV= team?
For anyone interested in joining the LV= journey and growing with us, Ashley has some sound insight. “If you want to better yourself and progress, you’ll be supported every step of the way. There’s a very good learning and development team that support any exam submissions and training, and there’s another team that offer technical training. And, alongside them, my colleagues and I, and anyone at LV= really, will also be happy to help or run a training session on one of our subjects.”
Whatever role you join us in, whatever the stage of your career, the support is always there if you need it. “That’s one of the key advantages of working here. You can always pick up the phone, and there’s always someone to turn to.”
