Unbeatable support and inspiring others - why this is more than just a job
“Everyone in the office is really friendly and sociable and the support you get at LV= is unbeatable," says Sophie.
Sophie joined the LV= Bristol office in February 2012 as a Customer Service Representative in our Motor department. “I had lots of support, not just from my own team leader, but others across the department. LV= will make sure you get the training to reach your goals.
Setting you up for success from the start
“One of the best things about LV= is the support you get, even before your first day”, explains Sophie. A week before starting at LV=, all new Customer Service Representatives are invited to come into the office, meet their new colleagues, familiarise themselves with the office and discuss what to expect on their first day. They’ll go through training together and with all the support provided from the whole team, they also grow and succeed together.
More than just a job
As a Buddy, Sophie supports and trains around five to eight newbies in Home Insurance, coaching them for up to eight weeks before they join the team on the floor. She meets and gets to know new people, introducing them to the business, how it works here at LV= and how we communicate with each other and our customers.
“The first few weeks at a job can always be a bit daunting, so being able to help our new joiners settle in their job and make sure they have everything they need to be successful, is something I really love about my role. One thing that’s really important to me is to know everyone’s names,” says Sophie. “It’s a small thing, but it’s really important – my previous manager knew my name pretty much straight away and that touched me. My hope is to inspire the trainees I work with, I want people to enjoy their jobs and grab those opportunities that are there for the taking.”
From the top down
Supporting newbies to achieve their best is not the only thing Sophie loves about her role. “Everyone in the office is really friendly and sociable, and getting creative and everyone involved in more than just work is a really fun and rewarding element of my role.” From the LV= version of the Great British Bake Off, Mexican themed days, Summer and Christmas Parties, to the upcoming LV= Pop Talent and Halloween party, Sophie likes to design incentives for the team. “Even though people are still doing their jobs and taking calls, they can still get involved at their desks – I love organising people and getting creative! What’s really great is the support I get from my managers – they let me get on with it and want it to be as much my idea as possible. I write the proposals for any materials or food I need and talk to them about why I think it’s a good motivator for the team.”
