Actuarial at LV=
We’ve grown substantially over recent years and established ourselves as one of the UK’s leading insurance companies. With exciting plans for the future, Actuarial is a hugely important area of our business. The expertise of our Actuarial teams underpins our continued success and we see them as the backbone of our financial security.
Rather than simply being a support service, Actuarial is a front office function at LV= and actuaries aren’t just expected to crunch numbers or run reports. Instead, their intelligence, understanding and recommendations provide crucial business insight and shape strategic decision-making that will positively impact the business, both years and decades ahead. Based in our Head Office, our actuaries all work under one roof and enjoy plenty of exposure to exciting challenges across General Insurance, Life business, Risk and Investment, and senior stakeholders throughout the organisation.
Because LV= is a mutual, we have a longer term view of the business and innovation is central to our success. Having a strong actuarial function enables us to optimise our operations and realise our objectives. As such, we give actuaries the autonomy and empowerment to find new ways of solving problems and improving ways of working. We’ve recently redefined our approach to reporting and made it smarter, more granular and more useful for different areas of the business. Instead of just reeling off reports, our actuaries interpret the data produced, thinking about its implications and using this knowledge to inform the business.
Joining the team, you’ll be encouraged to be proactive and dynamic. We'll listen to your ideas and your input will be valued across the organisation. We look for talented actuaries at all levels and our Actuarial Academy offers significant investment in technical training and the development of advanced ‘softer’ and commercial skills for both studying and post-qualified actuaries.
Sponsored by the Group Chief Actuary, the academy is a successful platform for building a rewarding Actuarial career as it enables you to map out your own development to achieve your ambitions. As our business continues to grow so must our talented Actuarial function. Joining us, you’ll enjoy evolving opportunities as you make a notable impact on the future of the business - and reap the rewards.

As the backbone of our financial security, our actuarial function underpins our success – both now and in the future."

"Working at LV= is both challenging and rewarding. You are given the opportunity to learn new skills and are encouraged to suggest improvements to working practices."
Alex Probyn Head of Embedded Value and Systems
"It feels much more of an actuarial community here which is beneficial as, if I need to ask someone from another area something, I can just walk over and see them. This results in far less politics as relationships aren't so remote and people listen to and value each other's input."
Adam Ruddle ALM Actuary
"It was only when I came to LV= and spoke to the people that I saw how important it was for an organisation to have a good culture as well as a good name. It's not just about what a company does but how they do it too and LV= is truly committed to looking after its people – both customers and employees. LV= doesn't stand still and with so many different departments and projects all in one office, you don't have to move locations every two years to progress."
