To help people protect and provide for the things they love – that’s why William Fenton created ‘The Liverpool Independent Legal Victoria Burial Society’ back in 1843.
Of course, we’ve come a long way since then, but the essence of what we do hasn’t changed. We’re still committed to helping people live confident lives - just like our founder set out to do all those years ago.
William Fenton, together with a group of caring friends, began 'The Liverpool Independent Legal Victoria Burial Society'. For many decades we were most commonly associated with what was known as the ‘penny policy’ – life insurance at its simplest. Door-to-door agents would collect these penny premiums, allowing people to leave a little something behind to cover the costs of a decent funeral.
By 1868 the company had moved its head office to 23 Islington, Liverpool.
After a build lasting 12 years the new impressive head office was opening in Bloomsbury Square, London.
In 1996 Liverpool Victoria took over the Frizzell Group and moved its head office to Bournemouth.
The LV= brand was launched. Employed 1,700 people across the UK.

At the end of 2019 we sold our General Insurance business to Allianz Holdings plc.
