Purpose, passion and pride – Mikey shares his LV= General Insurance (LV= GI) story

Say hello to LV= General Insurance (LV= GI) Huddersfield’s Sales and Service Manager, Mikey Wheelhouse. From giving back to the local community to prioritising family-time, Mikey shares his LV= GI story and tells us why he’s chosen to spend the last decade with us.

10 years and counting

When I stepped into LV= GI Huddersfield for my first interview 10 years ago, what struck me was that it didn't feel like a typical contact centre. Everybody had a smile on their face. The people that interviewed me were absolutely fantastic and came away from it thinking “that is where I want to work”.

My role as a Sales and Service Manager is essentially to manage the contact centre. That means supporting the seven team leaders who report directly to me, and generally looking after the inner workings of the contact centre. We put people at the heart of everything that we do, which is what sets us apart from every other company I've ever worked for. That’s the reason I’ve stayed at LV= GI for 10 years.

Giving back to the community

I'm incredibly proud to work for LV= GI. Not just because we’re leading the way in the insurance industry, but because we look after our people and give back to our local communities too. Whether you’re on the phones or in a management position, everybody who works here has the opportunity to get involved with charity work.

I lead the Community Committee at LV= GI Huddersfield. The Committee’s role is to supply donations to local charity organisations and also offer volunteering opportunities. A lot of charitable organisations are really struggling at the moment, so we give our people the opportunity to support them.

Recently, LV= GI employees have taken part in the Midnight Memory Walk and donated to a local boxing club that’s focused on keeping kids and young adults out of gangs.

Family and flexibility

The flexibility LV= GI offers is something I really value. I come into the office once or twice a week which enables me to spend more time with my family. Cutting out my commute means I can take my children to school in the morning, and flexible working hours have enabled me to attend events like sports days too. I’ve also been able to start volunteering my time every Tuesday to coach a local football team.

I feel hugely valued at LV=GI  and have done from the first day I joined. I absolutely love this company and what it's offered me on a personal and professional level. If somebody was thinking of joining LV= GI, I’d simply say “do it”. You won't regret it.
