“It's not one in one out and it's never one size fits all.” The inside scoop on Claims at LV= GI.

We caught up with Charlotte, AD Senior Claims Handler at LV= GI, to hear all about life in our Huddersfield office and why working in AD Claims isn’t quite what you’d expect.

What do you enjoy most about working in Claims at LV= GI?
I've worked at LV= GI for about eight years now and I love it! I think there's a misconception that if you work in a call centre, you're just a number. But I don't feel like that at all here. As part of the Claims team, our roles are really technical - it involves constant problem solving which keeps it fresh and exciting.

What’s the difference between working in Claims vs working in other departments?
In Claims, it might take you half a day to deal with just one claim. It's never one size fits all and you have to take your time to consider the information in front of you. Every claim is different - that’s what keeps your brain ticking. And we all help each other out too. It's nice to hear alternative routes to get to the same outcome - and collaborating with colleagues helps to build your knowledge. It’s actually quite a calm environment compared to what you might expect.

What are the career development opportunities like in Claims at LV= GI?
As part of the Claims team, there are plenty of opportunities to develop yourself and the way we do things. If you can identify something that can be done better within the business, you're encouraged to work on it and make suggestions. So as a Claims Handler, you could pull out a really, really great piece of work that could go on to actually change how we work in Claims overall. It makes you feel like you're actually making a difference.

What’s it like being back in the office?
I really struggled with working at home during the pandemic so I’m glad to be back in the office. LV= GI were great at keeping in touch with everyone while we were working remotely. But for me, I prefer to be in the office. And they've made it as safe as possible - we’re all distancing, sanitising and wearing masks - so I feel comfortable being back. It helps that our Huddersfield office is based in a beautiful building, too. It’s an old mill so there are massive windows and loads of exposed brick. There’s also a cafe downstairs - which is a massive bonus!

What are the main skills you think you need to succeed in Claims at LV= GI?
No matter what background you come from, the main thing you need to succeed here is curiosity. My team in Huddersfield are mad as a box of frogs. We're all different but we all get along so, so well. It's like a little family - it's great.

Can you tell us about the Engage initiative you’re involved in?
Well, it’s all about helping people stay engaged! It’s a way for us to check in on everyone and see if there’s anything we can do to improve their experience of work. So it’s everything from turning up the heating in the office to making sure everyone has the support they need, and that they all feel included in their team. It’s a great initiative to be involved in.
