Meet Caron Smith, Senior Recruitment Partner

Caron Smith, senior recruitment partner at our Bournemouth office, tells us about her role.
Caron’s varied career saw her first join LV= from school, where she worked in the accounts department and then within customer services. Caron then went on to develop her career in recruitment. Caron’s work life took her to Los Angeles for three years, where she worked at a global recruitment agency as a recruiter. She also took some time away from work to foster nine children. We were delighted to welcome Caron to our recruitment team in 2021.
What does your day-to-day role look like?
My role is very varied, which I love. On an average day, I work closely with our managers around the business. I take new job briefings and then write and post their advert to let everyone know we have a vacancy. I also go in search of potential candidates to fill the role.
Much of my time is spent engaging with hiring managers, other colleagues and candidates about all things recruitment. I also focus on data and reports in order to keep my HR colleagues updated on recruitment.
My favourite part of the job is making offers to my candidates. It’s great to support them through the journey of changing jobs.
What advice would you give someone looking to do a job like yours?
For anyone looking to get into a role like mine, it’s important that you’re curious and enjoy talking to people and meeting people from all walks of life. You need confidence to talk with people at all levels, recruiting for junior as well as senior positions and to communicate effectively. Additionally, you’ll need a general understanding of business industries and employment law.
What have you enjoyed most in your role so far?
I’ve really enjoyed getting to know more about some interesting areas of the business that I hadn’t come across before. This has developed my knowledge and skills. But mainly, I love working for such a great team and sharing in our successes.
If you had any other role at LV=, what would it be?
Nothing – I really enjoy what I do.
For a work meeting, what’s your drink of choice?
Skinny latte.
Outside work, what do you enjoy doing?
I love the sun and holidays. I go to the gym, enjoy walking and horse riding in the dry and warm weather. I also love to cook and entertain.
